Abstract

Through this research will evaluate the corrosion resistance of the NbN/Nb nanometric multilayers produced by unbalanced magnetron sputtering. The coatings were deposited upon steel AISI 304 and silicon (100) varied the bilayer  period  between  15 and  500  nm.  The corrosion resistance  was  established trough  electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) using a 3% NaCl solution. These results are complemented by structural characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The multilayers with lower bilayer period shown the best corrosion resistance than the substrate and the corrosion mechanism is discussed in this research.
