Abstract

This  paper  describes  some  synthetic  methods  for  obtaining  modified  starches  with  n-alkyl  chains  derivatives from  fatty  acids  and  with  polycaprolactone  (PCL)  and  poly  (ethylene  oxide)  (POE)  chains.  The  degrees  of substitution (DS) obtained in each case depend on the synthesis method and the length of the nature of the side chain. Most derivatives obtained were found to be stable at temperatures up to 250C and although most of these starches are not soluble in organic solvents, they swell in chloroform or THF. Finally, it was determined that in many cases the graft chains are able to crystallize in separate phases of the starch chain.
